Course description:

This comprehensive one-day course focuses on an introduction to the use of point of care ultrasound. Philips recognizes that every clinical practice is unique and the need for tailored education to address a wide range of clinical challenges. With this in mind, this course has been designed to present a customized educational experience based on your particular needs from a list of topics related to the introductory application of POCUS. Choose up to 4 topics and we will deliver high quality interactive, introductory level education, convenient to your site, with a Philips Clinical Service Specialist.

The course can be customized to include up to 4 of the following topics per day of delivery:

• Basic ultrasound principles

• Ultrasound protocol for imaging and identification of the central veins before, during and after central venous access

• The FAST protocol with normal and abnormal findings

• Ultrasound identification of lung and pleural space

• Ultrasound guided peripheral vascular access for intravenous (IV) cannulation

• Focused echocardiography

• RUSH protocol with normal and abnormal findings

Course objectives:

Upon completion of this course, depending on the topics selected, the learner should be able to:

• Explain the artifacts visualized in lung ultrasound

• Describe the appearance of pneumothorax and pleural effusion with ultrasound

• Discuss the clinical indications and essential views associated with FAST exams

• Describe the calculation of ejection fraction and stroke volume using transthoracic echo

• Describe the vessel criteria for ultrasound guided peripheral vascular access

• Discuss the procedural steps to placing a central line with ultrasound guidance/assistance

This activity may be available in multiple formats or from different sponsors. ARRT regulations state that an individual may not repeat a lecture presentation for credit if it was reported in the same biennium.
